NEW YORK — New York-based Nepali authors will host a community book sale Sept. 13 to raise funds for people affected by flooding along Nepal’s Trishuli River.

The event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at Himalayan Yak Restaurant, 72-20 Roosevelt Ave., in Jackson Heights.

Passang Sherpa, one of the organizers, urged authors, community members and book lovers to participate by donating or purchasing books.

“Please donate a book, buy a book and be part of this meaningful cause,” Sherpa said. “Around a dozen books from more than 10 authors have been confirmed for participation. Any author can participate with a book in Nepali or English. All book sales should be donated to disaster relief. If you don’t live in New York, you are also welcome to participate.”

Sherpa said authors and community members also may contribute books by other writers to be sold at the event. Participants interested in selling books are encouraged to contact the organizers with the titles of the books they plan to offer.

Beyond raising money for relief efforts, the event will give attendees an opportunity to purchase books directly from authors, meet other writers, promote literary works and connect with the Nepali community, Sherpa said.

“We want to support the cause, and we may continue this type of event in the future for other causes,” he said.

Organizers said all proceeds from book sales will be donated directly to the Nepal Government Disaster Relief Fund. Attendees also will be able to make additional donations and help promote the relief effort.

The event is organized by New York-based Nepali authors in association with Khasokhas and NepYork.
